In the context of the DRIVER+ project, a series of Trials and a Final Demonstration will be conducted with the main aim to:
- investigate innovative solutions under simulated crisis condition, by gradually adapting them to operational constrains
- creating acceptance among users through their active involvement, and
- providing evidence to decision-makers that solutions are cost-effective.
A series of four Trials will be organised to operationalise and test Crisis Management solutions. The first trial was successfully held in Warsaw, Poland from 21st – 25th May 2018.
The DRIVER+ project is now working with great enthusiasm on the preparations of Trial #2 to be held from 22nd-26th October 2018 at the Entente pour la Protection de la Forêt Méditerranéenne Valabre, France.
WHAT IS TRIAL #2 ABOUT?
Trial #2 aims to improve cooperation and coordination between organisations and agencies from different countries using innovative solutions for large scale and complex multi-event crisis. The scenario of the Trial will be a large forest fire that occurs in a cross-border Mediterranean environment and threatens wildland urban interfaces. Because of these widespread effects, multiple other incidents, both man-made and natural hazards will occur on several sites. The main mission objective of the Trial is to “suppress the fire” to protect people, goods and infrastructures as well as the environment. Because of the widespread effects of these kinds of incidents and limited possibilities to conduct this kind of exercise in real-life conditions, the trial will be organised as a table-top exercise based on a simulated environment. The scenario will require a commitment of various types of stakeholders and agencies such as fire-fighters, medical service organisations, the environmental protection agency and decision makers and public authorities.
The scenario will help to investigate innovative solutions that can improve crisis management e.g. the actual scenario by developing interoperability and coordination in response operation, thereby supporting a common understanding among the actors involved in the crisis and enhancing the situational awareness of all actors involved.
